Project Description
This pavilion reconsiders John Portman’s Entelechy houses as a public, open-air timber structure. The resulting sequence of alternating nested spaces act to direct circulation and exhibit small scale sculptures, while intermediate zones are home to larger installations. Depicted in elevation, the raised and recessed columns reach toward the openings in the roof plane. The shorter exploded columns read as intimate spaces of display, while the full height columns are structural. As both an organizational and lighting strategy, Portman’s columns incite exploration and disperse light into the field.
